SHE'S A DOLL!!

Happy Monday Dolls!! I have a sad and a happy story to tell. My grandmother is 92 and still beautiful. Several years ago I had found a doll that reminded me of granny and sent it to her for Christmas. When my mom made her weekly Sunday call to her, she asked her if she liked the doll and Grandma began crying. You see, what neither my mom nor I knew was that in 80 odd years, this was the FIRST doll my grandma had EVER received!! No dolls were ever bestowed upon her as a little girl, because not only was her family poor, but her mother died in childbirth when my grandma was only 9 years old. She was shuffled from foster home to foster home and it was not until they were adults that she and her brothers and sisters were reunited and remained close through the years.

I love to scrap book. These pages are what I entered a few years ago in the Fair and won a Sweepstakes ribbon. There she is, holding that first granny doll aptly titled "Granny and Kitty." Crazy thing was , it looks like my grandma, as you can see from the scrap book page picture and she had a kitty cat at that time that she adored. This beautiful collectors doll even came with a love seat and little pillow for granny (the doll version, lol) to sit on!

How cute is this!!

I would go on to give her more dolls in the years to come, including this one named
 "Andrea." It became tradition.

Here she is on her 90th birthday and she's still going strong. My mother definitely inherited my grandmas compassion and they are literally, the two sweetest ladies I know. Although I have no girls, my plan is to save these precious dolls so that one day my grandchildren can adore them, learn the story behind them and come to know the loving spirit of their
great-great grandma.

Love You Grandma
You're a Doll!!

XOXO

  7. What a beautiful post. I could barely finishing reading as the tears just took over. She sounds like a wonderful person just like her Granddaughter. My Grandmother is 91 and I take care of her so I know just how wonderful that Granddaughter/Grandmother bond is. It's not easy but wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. My Great-Grandfather lived til he is 102 so I'm praying that my Grandmother does as well. I can't imagine life without her.

  23. What a wonderful touching story ! And that first doll does look just like your grandma. Grandmas have such a special place in our lives. My was a peach too. I remember when we would leave her house to travel the 1 1/2 hours it took to go home she would always pack us kids a brown bag full of treats - apples, raisins, and cookies. Thanks for sharing this heart touching story. Blessings.
