WACKY WONDERFUL WEEKEND

Happy Monday! Let's start by saying this: wet tree, food on fire, mimosas, confiscated purse, flying Carmex and tight football pants viewing.....yep that was our wacky weekend after Thanksgiving. Since I did our Family Traditions post last Monday, I saved this for today. As in fine Guns-N-Roses song lyrics (for you 80's fans), on Friday "we woke up to the sound of the pouring rain". Yep, it was tree chopping day, our last as next year we are going pre-lit artificial unless the boys chain themselves to a Fraser Fir in protest!! It was also tripod out and family photo day, literally my most favorite day of the year! Good news is that I got to wear my festive red Hunters, bad news was that after breakfast we rerouted our pics under an old mill and we had to break it to the kids that Saturday we'd be purchasing a fake tree. Gasps from the peanut gallery as the disappointment in the boys eyes was enough to rethink this game plan. No Snow and Wet tree it would be to dry out in the garage for decorating on Saturday instead, even though I was STILL having Baileys and coffee on that day!! Breakfast was great despite forgetting the cheese in my mushroom and spinach omelet. This lady needs cheese...

Off to a park where they have a quaint old mill and we had a ball getting photos for Cards. Of course they indulged me in a quick outfit post pic session for this Wednesday. Just saying, it may or may not be another poncho........

Miraculously when we drove into the tree farm, the rain stopped and we meandered our way through the pines and found the most perfect tree we'd ever had. The boys even saw some hot chicks in the tree lot, so everybody was happy. Got into the truck and believe it if not, it started raining again!! How lucky did we get?!!

That night was a birthday dinner for our son who you know turned 18 last week. These boys and their sushi!!! The sushi was great and some of it even came with the flaming fire. The boys will be boys decided to cook other objects in the fire and the ginger shot so high, I thought it would cinge their hair. The not so humorous waiter quickly cleared the bowls of fire!
Disaster averted but it was kind of fun.

As you know this CAKE is always requested for birthdays but this boy loves his fruit crisp so Apple Crisp it was. Side note, I always make this with Jonagold apples! They are the BEST baking apples!! Part of our birthday traditions for the kids is toasting with sparking Apple cider. I think mom and grandma had the real stuff, lol

Saturday was errands, tree decorating, heating up all the leftovers, the boy's "girl"friends over and watching our beloved Notre Dame lose their 2nd regular season game by 2 and kissing the play offs goodbye!

Another view of our tree I showed you Friday

NOOOOO

Sunday was a trip to Indianapolis for a Colts tailgate and game!! While we are more college football fans, how can you not love the Colts being Hoosiers? This game was supposed to be with two other couples but one person got sick on the other couple had to move on an unexpected weekend. So since one of our boys had plans, we took the other two. It started out with the morning tailgate close to the stadium catered by Morton's! The mimosas were freely flowing along with filet mignon, mini cheeseburgers, mini key lime tarts, blaring music and these cool lights.

This is were it got a little crazy! We were lucky enough to have front row seats on the 50 yard line and what was most exciting for me was to get to see the football players in their tight pants. However, that almost didn't happen. We had looked the night before on the Colts website and it said a small purse was OK to take in. However, it did not say anything about measurements. As we are walking in, I asked the police officer my purse is OK & he said no. I thought he was joking as he seemed jovial, until I got to The "body scanner lady" and she said I could not take it in! What? We were parked a mile away there was no way I could take my purse back to the vehicle and it was one of my favorite Crossbody purses. With heat rising, I had to literally take everything in my purse out and move it to my sunglasses case. My husband had already gone in the iron gates and since I had brought Carmex along for him with now no room to put it anywhere, I threw it and instead of landing by my husband, it hit the iron and and flew back at me to which the body scanner ladies hollered at me that I better "knock it off."

So I left my purse lay on the ground and proceeded into the event fuming, especially when I saw another girl carrying a purse even larger than mine who had came in at a different gate. Real fair!! Sorry honey for my little "Principal of the Matter" hissy fit.
Anyway, once I saw how good our seats were and got a cranberry and vodka and a little popcorn, I was good to go. Look at all this action:

My favorite picture. Starting QB Andrew Luck, who is injured, giving 40 yr old Matt Hasselback pointers. He killed it as QB as brought the "W"!!

Told ya~Tight pants!!

BUT, I still Miss that Beloved purse!!!!
HAPPY MONDAY!!

xoxo
Gotta Love Maxine!!!

  20. Mmmm sushi!!! Sounds like you guys had a great weekend and lucked out and got the tree just in time! The Colts game looks fun, with those tight pants and all ;) But that stinks about your purse!!! I hate that some people were able to get in with larger ones. That would burn my biscuits too! Hope you have a great week!!!

  22. Your family is so awesome! Y'all are seriously adorable. I love that you guys got to get so close at the game. Also, that is crazy about your purse. I've NEVER had them tell me I couldn't bring a purse before. I got stopped for an umbrella, recently, but they didn't say anything about my purse.

  24. Aww, look at your handsome boys!! I love your tree-cutting tradition, that sounds so fun! I hope to start a tradition like that too. Sadly, we are still tree-less--my little one has been sick since Saturday so we haven't been able to go get one :( Yours is beautiful! Can't wait to get ours!

  29. What a crazy weekend!!! That's such a bummer about your purse...I would be SO upset. Especially seeing someone else with something bigger! I am so glad your tree cutting and pictures worked out. That sushi looks amazing. I could go for some right now!

  30. Woah!! I was trying to figure out what year this was from but now I can see from the comments. What a crazy story but those seats seemed worth it (and that view of the tight white pants!). I would have been mad about the purse though. I had to laugh about the "knock it off" comment you got!! My girls like apple crisp more than cake too!
