GUILTY PLEASURES...HOW DO YOU TREAT YOURSELF?

I pulled this post back out from last Summer to Link-UP with the ladies of Girl Chat

It's still summertime, which means it's way too hot and laid back to do anything ambitious or worthy. So why not indulge in your guilty pleasures? You deserve them! I always say it really doesn't take much to make me happy.

Now, I will start by saying that this is a rough day. As we speak, we are moving our oldest into his apartment at IU. There's going to be lots of setting up today and trips by mom to the store and then as Mr. Nine and I travel home tonight, probably a few tears running down my cheeks. The second one is moving into his frat house at Purdue this week too! I pray this week is not as hard as this time last year when they went off for first time!

My College Boys

So, clearly with a little of the blues because of the kids going back, mama really needs those guilty pleasures more than ever! Why is it most of them revolve around food? Lol.

Andrea's GUILTY Summer PLEASURES~
Ice Cream for Supper ~ Kids, I have done this five times this year, five times! When I know I'm serving the fam leftovers or no one's going to be home but me, Bam, swing by The Chief (the best and most famous ice cream shop in Indiana) and my day is made! I always get the same thing, one scoop of lemon on a sugar cone, and I always have exact change: $3.35 well spent! Last week the girl remembered my order, lol.

Deep Fried and Butter ~ my affinity for deep-fried Fair food runs deep! It is the only week of the year that I usually even eat deep-fried! And it is definitely a guilty pleasure! Can you believe we never even got out to the Fair this year. And mama is not getting grease all over the kitchen, lol. Guess I'll settle for deep fried cheese curds from our favorite brewery! Oh and loads of butter on the cream of the crop: corn on the cob.....lip smacking good I tell ya!!

 I love you cheese curds

I keep showing this picture because I love that stinking' corn dog stand sooo much!

Fancy Flip Flops ~ Usually it's boots I splurge on but I felt it was time for more than $3 old navy or target flip flop so I splurged on the Tory Burch Miller's and LOVE THEM!! Have a feeling mama will need a couple more pairs next Summer. Yep, Love them so much getting another pair Summer 2018!
Get your own splurge HERE

Online Shopping (Hello #NSale, Loft...MUST SHOP) ~ well, the #Nsale wasn't a big thriller for me this summer but the back-to-school sales have me quite enticed! I guess though you could say the majority of online shopping I've been doing is to furnish a college apartment for a boy! And of course the ever fun home Decor for the new house! Online stopping and getting those packages on my front porch makes me giddy!

And this Graphic
Champagne Campaign!! I VOTE YES!!

I am dying to get thisTop from The Loft

And this Tasseled Cover-UP

Reading Magazines ~ I never read magazines in the winter but summer...bring on the People and all things Good Housekeeping, Home Decor related, etc. Fun, in the Sun, reads.

Sitting out in the Sun ~ second to floating in a pool, this is my 2nd favorite summer thing to do. I know nothing productive is happening, but it clears my mind so I can be productive.

Binging T.V. Series ~ How much do I love the fact that we can now binge and not wait til next week!! In there Summer , the TV viewing is slim pickin's but with Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu, DVR, etc...I am one happy girl. What made me Most happy this Summer: Watching 84 episodes, all 7 seasons of "Shameless." This show is crude and crazy and I loved every minutes of it and felt like the Gallagher's were family! I miss it but we just finished Godless and so excited for the second season of Ozark.

I hide food ~ and I am not ashamed to admit it!! I learned my lesson a few years back when the boys would eat all my favorite treats. I like to spread them out and not eat all at once, so I have a mama snack cabinet that remains undisturbed from "boy" hands and the stash of Chips Ahoy thins, Good Thins White Cheddar crackers, Goldfish, etc is intact. Well, except for the caramel M&M's.....can't stop.....

How do you treat yourself?

xoxo

  2. hahaha I love that you have your own stash of food! And that you do ice cream for dinner if you're by yourself! When Dustin is away during hunting season, I sometimes treat myself to a bowl of cereal for dinner since we don't keep it in the house. It's the one thing I look forward to! Good luck today!

  7. I kid you not, my stomach growled. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on House of Cards. It certainly is an interesting show, but one that has always sucked me in. Praying for you today and this week sweet mama.

  8. I knew I liked you! A lemon cone sounds fabulous! I have my own mom stash, too. It's like they hear you when you even open a bag from a different floor of the house, too. My favorite guilty pleasure summer foods are nachos from the concession stand (and like at 9 am at a swim meet!) and funnel cakes- we had funnel cake fries in STL a few weeks ago- so good! Happy Monday!

  13. Oh sweet friend, this will be a tough week. Even as a kid, no matter how excited you are to move away from home..it's always a little heart wrenching when Mom and Dad drive away! Load up on all of those hidden snacks and don't feel badly about it! This is WHY they make those goodies to begin with! love ya girl! XO

  18. I am sending you all the hugs today as you send your boys back to school. I know it is rough, you certainly deserve an extra scoop of ice cream! I really liked House of Cards. Chris and I watched a few episodes of Shameless, but he didn't seem to care for it. I liked it though, so I am going to try to get him to try it again. Hope you have a great week!

  19. When will I ever get my act together...I totally meant to do this today...maybe tomorrow😀👍🏼
Andrea, I'm saying a prayer for an easy week for you (and me and Kellyann...and all the mama's sending our babies back to school) So exciting for them and lonely for us, but that's part of the plan. So while I can't really get on the lemon ice cream bandwagon I do love that nail polish color your wearing...LOL! I couldn't LOVE anymore that you have your own snack cabinet. That is the BEST!!! Let's hide out next week and eat all the junk food to soothe our sad little selves. (and then we can be even more depressed because we feel so gross😜) I finally caved too and bought the exact same Tory Burch sandals after years of drooling over them. Now if I can just keep from tripping and tearing up the toe...I'm terrified I'll do that very thing and be sick over it. I think they are so cute, albeit stupid expensive. Have a great week. Good luck moving the boys in!!! XOXOXO

  22. I can't even begin to think about my boys going off to college one day! All the tears! I get teary just dropping them off at daycare in the morning. Also, my littles had ice cream for dinner the other night haha that either makes me the best or the worst mama ever.

  23. I'm pretty bad about shopping to treat myself. I'm bad about journals & paper & pens as a 'treat'... how many journals does one person need? Apparently a lot ;) haha

  24. I love that you hide food. I have a feeling I'm going to be doing that in a few years when the kids get older! Ha!

  25. Good luck with the back to school moves! Mine starts Kinder next week so I will be right there with ya and probably leaving a hot mess! That stash would definitely make me feel better lol! Happy Monday!

  26. Oh no mama, I am already dreading the day they leave for college {hugs}. I hope the move is going well. I always sneak a treat behind the kids back. If not, I will never hear the end of them wanting one or me never being able to enjoy a bite.

  27. Awww...good luck to the boys and hugs to momma! This is the first year in 22 years we will not be sending one to school (well the puppy may be going ;-) Seems so odd. Love that nail color...do you remember what it's called? And give me anything lemon during the summer.

  28. Oh girl I was thinking about you all weekend knowing you were dropping off your oldest on Sunday, ugh! It sure is hard to let them go. Knowing how happy and excited they are is a plus though. And you're right we need to indulge in those guilty pleasures for sure! I love all the sweet and yummy treats and shopping and I love that you enjoy ice cream for dinner!!!!I have been binge watching so many shows on Netflix, I swear I am obsessed. That dress you want is super cute too and will look marvelous on you!

  29. Bwhahaha! I love your stash, Sista! Sometimes, a mom just needs to lock herself in the bathroom and eat cookies, right? I'm thinking about you tonight as you and Mr. Nine are traveling. Be safe and I hope that there are not nearly as many tears as last year. Your boys are so handsome and have been "raised right." I know they are gonna make Mama and Papa proud! Love ya!

  30. Love that you have a Mama snack cabinet that is not to be touched by the boys because you know it will be depleted in days or hours. Sending hugs and strength as you send your two boys off again back to College. Mama bird gotta let her boys spread their wings and achieve their goals as much as it may be hard. Hope all the sweet indulgences help you through it. I've been dying for a pair of TB Miller flats in that same color but have yet to pull the trigger...so tempting because they look so comfy. xoxo Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  33. Been thinking of you all day today - hope it went well and you could feel all my hugs! So funny, I also hide food from the boys, because otherwise they would hoover it in ten seconds flat!

  34. Yes to all of these, especially that striped top! This past weekend I got to treat myself...I went for a mani-pedi, followed by a wash, conditioning treatment and style. My day ended with a new pair of shoes, purchased with a gift card - oh the best! haha. Anyway, I want to go visit "the Chief" and try me some lemon ice cream! As always, your post are so fun to read. Have a fabulous week! P.S. I have to hide food as well!!!!!

  38. My kids are still little so I just put the good snacks up high, lol. I'll have to get a new system once they get too tall. I'm thinking about you this week. Hope the transition is as easy as possible. Sending love.

  39. Ice cream is a huge downfall for us; my brother in law has a stand making their own homemade ice cream. Did I mention we get to eat for free?! Yeah, it's tough but I will survive! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes to ice cream! We did the ice cream for dinner once in the Spring and it was awesome! A good way to end a really crappy day. And I still have yet to try those carmel M&M's...need to get some stat! good luck today moving one of your boys, oh man, I don't even want to think about that!

  41. I'm glad I am not the only one that hides treats. I hide them from my husband - who always seems to find them - I need to find better spots (but the freezer is only so big). I hope it all went well and you are adjusting with the boys back at school.
