WHY I TAKE VITAMINS

I'm a pill popper! A healthy pill popper that is. While I hate to take any kind of medicine, vitamins are vital part of my life. A common objection to taking vitamins is that you get everything you need from a healthy balanced diet. However, most of us, while meaning well, do not eat perfectly everyday. It is extremely difficult to get optimal levels of key nutrients from diet alone, which is why I need and want vitamins and supplements for my health. And Guess what? I feel good when I take them and since taking the following 7 daily vitamins, the number of colds and viruses I've gotten has gone down and my energy level has gone up. My doctor endorses them, especially the importance of vitamin D3 because it helps absorb calcium and therefore keeping our bones strong. So important for ladies as we age.
I'm unable to take a multivitamin due to kidney stone formation from the calcium so I make sure to get my calcium from diet only.

Everyone is different and you want to make sure your Health Care provider knows what vitamins you're taking.

Here is the list of what Vitamins I take Daily, Why, The Amount and Brand of choice

D3 - Assist in Calcium Absorption and Bone Strength, 1000 IU, Sundown Naturals

E - Immunity, Skin and Eye Health, 400 IU, Puritan's Pride

C - Immune System, 500 mg, Puritan's Pride (In the Winter I take a Emeregen-C chewable or packet a day as well).

B12 - Energy - (Thank you Dr. Oz), 1000 mcg, CVS Pharmacy Brand

Biotin - Hair, Nails and Skin Health, 5000 mcg, Nature's Bounty

Probiotic - Digestive Health, 100 million Active Cultures, Puritan's Pride

Magnesium - Digestive track - regular smooth sailing everyday if you know what I mean. 250 mg, Nature's Bounty

My Vitamin Stash

In addition to vitamins for health, I feel fun days with the family or friends is just as important. Here are a few snaps from our Family Day on Saturday.
From top left clockwise: Da Boys, Industrial Mug Club, Meat and Cheese board (yum), Promposal (more to come in a future post), the awesome Michigan Brewery and Mr. Nine sporting my bunny ears in a gift shop. Great day!!

Do you take vitamins? If so, why and how do they make you feel?

  1. I take a multi vitamin every evening and I can definitely tell a difference in my skin and nails when I'm taking it vs when I'm not. It's such a good habit to get into!

  2. I've heard a lot of good things about a probiotic--I should look into that. I take a prenatal multivitamin every night--mainly for my hair and nails to grow. I can tell that if I have forgotten to take it that my energy level is down. Have a great Monday!

  6. Ha! Vitamin U! Too funny! I do think very few people actually eat a balance enough diet to not supplement at least sometimes. I take a multi a few days a week, I should probably step that up a bit!

  10. B12 is an awesome vitamin. I take the B-Complex when I've had a few drinks--it helps clear out my liver and not make me feel icky the next day!

  20. Give me that meat and cheese board, yum!!!!! Look how cute you all are on family day!!! I take a multi-vitamin every day. I used to take B12 also but my body doesn't absorb it so I have to get shots to keep my B levels from becoming "dangerous", shots are no fun.

  32. Vitamin D with calcium. Just had my levels checked and I'm good to go with the D. I ususally take a multi vitamin too, but haven't filled up the stash yet. I try to get outdoors everyday for the natural D from Mr. Sunshine. Eating well helps too, except when I'm on my sugar binge. Helpful post, thanks for sharing on Tuesday Talk.

  33. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I need that vitamin D and calcium. Since adding vitamin D to my other pills I take each day has boost my energy levels so much. I might need to add that b12 for the winter months I think. Great post! Vitamins are super important.
